Invalid download URLs for Mat Manager...

Postby JudgeMingus on Thu Apr 19, 2007 4:55 am

I have attempted to download Mat Manager and the old URLs are all dead, probably due to the overall revamp of the Airwarfare.com site.

Is it possible to get new, valid links up for the software and documentation?

You can find everything here
The links do work - start under the "Download Link" header with V2.33PLUS, work your way up in the table and the versions UN-INSTALL previous version before installing the next one

WARNING: You're on your own with this one! (exept some help from other users)
I find it difficult in every aspect - therefore I don't use it myself It's hard to download/install and work with, installs waaay to many files.
It seems Aces has abandoned this project, It seems to not work with 1946

That said it still is the best marking program for the IL-2 series.

The only documentation I'm aware of is In the IL2 Community Created Manual

Finally I saw the problem which was right in front of me!

The DNS name 'aces_artwork.airwarfare.com' is technically invalid:
DNS names are not supposed to contain underscore characters.

Although I can do a lookup for the DNS name successfully, the local proxy servers will not allow me to browse to the URL (I am presented with an error page)! :(
DNS servers seem to ignore the rule and process underscores anyway, but Squid seems to be more finicky!

I am surprised this hasn't come up previously, as there are lots of people using Squid proxies...

I will try from my ISP at home in case my results are any better. I will report back when I have had a chance to try it.

Well, Squid was definitely the problem!

When I got home (and disabled my own squid proxy) I was able to access the site and download the required files (Well, I think I got them all... There are quite a lot, aren't there!).

Thanks very much for the help, MaXMhZ.
When I get some time to play with Mat Manager I will probably be back here for more assistance!

Good you got it working :)

Yes there are quite some files.
Aces put a lot of work into it

It's very sad he decided to stop working on it.

AFAIK 2.33PLUS will work with 4.07m and on but later versions won't.
You do have to make a copy of il2fb.exe

rightclick il2fb.exe
select copy
select paste
you should now have a file called 'copy of il2fb.exe'

rightclick this file, select 'rename' and then rename it to 'il2.exe'

make sure all extensions are shown - Windows can hide known
extensions.

see my post in this thread on M4T on how to do this if you don't know - the thread is about getting MAT Manager to work with 4.08m, you might want to follow it since there are a lot of people having problems - someone might find a solution
