What can Host do in the Il2 AEP PF ect.

I would like to settle an argument. My Friend says that a very skilled host can alter or control the settings of a pilot in a coop or campaign. As I understand his question, he believes that a host he flys with often is " kinking" his game with intent. Can this be done?

This needs to be posted in the PF or help forum.

Settings of a pilot - meaning AI settings? Becuase a host can change the AI level from Rookie to ACE but anything outside of that I do not think it can be done. The game has had "cheats" in the past but they are generally dealt with ASAP.

There is not much a host can do to "kink" a game - most problems like "warping and stutter are connected to are connected to wrong settings for connection speeds (your friend should make sure he has a low ping and set his connection to ISDN (lower if he has a lower speed) Warping could be induced in the past by pressing printscreen and producing lots of screenshots which slowed the host's system, but there are settings in conf.ini now to counter this. The only real cheat I know of was a utility that read out the logfile while it was altered and could report opponent's positions on the map and what they were doing (sortof a radar) but that's not very usefull. A host can't change anything about a player's plane, be it damage it inflicts, ordonance or fuel onboard, damage to the airframe etc. Because FB uses UDP as a protocol weird things can happen online though that are not influenced by the host or the player. Planes can even fly through one another, one without damage and the other blowing up because of UDP packet loss (the game will say "Cheating detected" then - but that's just a wong message in the game and doesn't mean anyone is cheating ;) - it just means dataloss because of a bad connection. Luckyboy ven substituted it with "Porn surfing detected" :smt005

Yep, one of the best things about this game is the lack of cheats for it. The "porn surfing" thing is easily defeated by having the host keep the ping kick settings tight.

In my haste to pretend I was whitty, I forgot to include a very important point about playing this game online. In most game forums, this isn't even considered worth saying because it is a risk anytime you connect to the internet, much less for gaming purposes. However, flight sims can attract old and decrepid types (that's me man!) who don't even understand the basics of PC security. Added to this is the severe temptation to take a bit of load off of the CPU while playing this game by stopping security/software firewall/antivirus programming. This is a very bad idea. Please don't listen to the 'tards that say they do it without trouble. Most malware today simply wants to use your computer as a jump 'n dump. So while cheating by the host or anyone else is not possible, plain ole hacking of your system and tegular virus passings happen all the time.

No biggy, just keep the security programming going when you are online. In fact, keep it going when offline. What if you extract something and it springs to life?
