Gizmo - conf.ini editor - WiP

Postby MaXMhZ on Thu Dec 16, 2004 9:57 am

Hi - as promised earlier on - here are some screenshots from my current project Gizmo
a conf.ini editor :D

Image

I'm hoping that "auto-detect-IP" at the top is working :D....

This is not quite ready yet (the levels lower-right will come sliders, some ordering around EAX extentions etc to do still)...

I'm currently working on the Joystick Tab :D
That should be some fun to experiment with :D

I'm also thinking of adding Quick-Launch buttons at the bottom for external programs ;)

Worth a look for all german speakers is the detailed conf.ini-documentation at SturmoWiki, the german IL-2-Wikipedia:

Not much progress (regress at the moment even).
I had to restart the whole project because I did a (totally) wrong parser :(

At the moment I'm busy with MetaMis - that's coming along great (It's much simpler too programming-wise although it might not seem to be).

But a lot of what IL2Gizmo will do IL2Wingman already does :D

I did say it could be a while - I'm learning Delphi with this project so I'm bound to make mistakes and get stuck and ah well - I'm checking/discovering things about conf.ini as I go...

Looks good...

One recommendation for making it easier on the end user. Use names to substittute for the numbers if possible.

for example, net speed. While I know the valuesare 5000,8000, 10000, 15000, 20000 it is better for the average Joe to see something like "56K", "ISDN", "DSL", "CABLE"

Same thing for things like speaker types. 0,1,2,3 doesn't tell me anything. "Headphones", "Desktop", "5.1 surround sound" etc is a better description.

Your tool will certainly make HOW to edit the file somewhat easier but that hasn't been pople's biggest problems. It's knowing WHAT to set things to that is much more helpful. By adding more descriptive labels to the various fields as applicable you have the opportunity of turning a good tool into an excellent one.
